Photographs Relative to the Première of Concerto for Piano and Orchestra (1982)
1st movement
Writer John Habich took to the fact that husband Harold had written his first piano concerto for wife Jane -- and that the world première of the concerto would fall on Valentine's Day, 14 February 1984 -- as if designed by Cupid himself. The Tallahassee Democrat published Habich's article, "Composer's Valentine: Be my pianist," on 14 February 1984 -- right on target. The photo accompanying the article, by Mike Ewen, likewise made the point (and Jane's red blouse didn't hurt anything).

The 2000 Focus on Piano Literature, at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, featured new works each commissioned by a member of UNCG's piano faculty. The entire faculty asked Harold for a "grand finale," and he provided them Extravaganza --for 12 hands, 6 pianists, and 3 pianos.
